After already securing their place in their league, the 4s went into their game with good spirits. Gillingham showed they needed a result as they came out strong and fought hard from the whistle. Their hardwork paid off with a fumbling in the d and slipped the ball into the goal. They continue to fight and managed to obtain a short corner which was fired towards Folkestone’s defence and deflected over them into the goal. Folkestone then reset at half time and came out fighting and raring to go. After some build up of play by Folkestone and some great possession by player of the match Laura. Rachel D-D saw Cheeseman in space by the p spot and pushed towards her and cheeseman got a deflection and hammered into the goal. This put the score to 2-1.
With lots of possession, Folkestone finally saw an opening just outside the d where Captain Janna past the ball to D-D who was in loads of space and pushed the ball to the left post. Luckily Griff jumped out of the way and D-D’s ball found the back of the net. Bringing the score back to 2-2. Gillingham had a few breakthroughs which challenged Folkestone’s consistent defence who fought tirelessly throughout the game. With a scary moment of attack in the last minutes. Sue French made her mark and saved a shot with her left knee and cleared it wide.
The team wouldn’t have finished in the position they did in the league without the stabilising and calming presence of Mike Hopkin leading their bench. The whole team are truly grateful for his time, support and input. Thank you!
