The ladies 2s travelled to Tunbridge Wells knowing that they were to face a traditionally very organised and skilful side. Ops started strongly with Izzy Prout and Evie Little causing the Wells defence problems with their fierce running and silky skills. The early pressure paid off when Adrienne Rowe’s through ball was picked up by Becca Shaw who took on the Wells defence, picked her spot, and placed the ball in at the far post. Wells came straight back at Ops and in an ironic twist of fate, equalised with an almost identical goals to Ops’. With the game poised it was Wells who took the game on, but the excellent defending of Erin Fuller, Sophie Rumsey and Laurel Fry gave them no way through. Even when Wells had a short corner at the half time whistle, there was no way through for them with keeper Amy Bumstead pulling off a flying save to keep the game level. The second half resumed at the same intensity with both sides looking to pull ahead. Unfor-tunately for Ops it was Wells who out themselves in front with a deflection at a short corner followed by a rebound to put them 3-1 up. Ops didn’t sit back and a piercing run from Lily Rockall crossed to find Sophie Newman at the back post who lifted the ball into the net. Ops stretched themselves up the pitch to find an equaliser but it was Wells who took advantage of the space to make it 4-2 on the breakaway and finish the game off. While the result wasn’t as wanted, the commitment, desire and performance was excellent from the Ops side.
